Hope Taft has served as President of The Tandana Foundation’s Board of Trustees since her daughter founded the organization in 2006. Along with this role, Hope has held countless other informal positions from manager of Tandana’s “International Headquarters” to inimitable recruiter, marketer, and relationship builder. In doing so, she has provided immeasurable value and strategic leadership that has helped Tandana grow from an idea into a global nonprofit that has positively impacted the lives of many thousands of people in Ecuador and Mali as well as volunteers and supporters from around the world.

As Tandana approaches its 18th anniversary and “comes of age,” Hope is stepping back from her formal role as President and from most of her informal duties as she transitions to the title of "President Emerita." To recognize Hope’s enduring legacy at Tandana and beyond - and in celebration of her 80th birthday - Tandana is throwing a big party and inviting all its (and Hope’s) friends to attend.

Come join hands with us to celebrate Hope and honor her dedication and service while also supporting Tandana and ensuring its success well into the future. There will be dinner by the bite, a cash bar, great fellowship, music and merriment, and much more. Business casual attire. We look forward to seeing you there!

Dear Tandana Friends, As expected, the outpouring of affection for Hope Taft and respect for her legacy has been overwhelming—as has registration for the November 8 "Legacy of Hope" event. As of October 23rd the event is SOLD OUT and we are no longer able to sell tickets given the maximum number of guests that the Boat House can accommodate. If you wish to make a donation in support of Hope's special projects, you can find information on how to do that below, listed under "Hope's Gift Registry." 	Grain Bank in Mali ($8,000 - Total Project Cost) In Mali's Bandiagara District, food security is a major concern. Community members work hard, farming millet, peanuts, sorghum, cowpeas, and other crops, and yet decreasing rainfall and increasing pest problems have caused harvests to diminish. In most years, most families cannot harvest enough food to last them through the year until the next harvest. Cash income is very difficult to come by in the villages, so young people must then go to the cities to look for work and send money home so their families can purchase food. Villages in the area have proposed several solutions to the problem of food insecurity, including grain banks which allow them to purchase a large stock of grain at the time of year that the price is lowest, and then store it to use during the entire year, especially when prices are the highest. $15 – A sack of cement for construction of the storehouse $35 – A sack of rice $50 – A sack of millet $100 – A door for the storehouse $250 – A desk and chair $4,500 – Complete construction costs for the storehouse Read this blog about grain banks in Mali! 	Natividad Water in Ecuador ($16,000 - Total Project Cost) Water is life. The Natividad community of Ecuador needs a system to bring clean water to families’ homes. Safe, potable, piped water will mean better health, less worry, and more time to devote to other pursuits. 	Kansongho School in Mali ($77,000 - Total Project Cost) Residents of Kansongho, Mali have long dreamed of having a school for their children. The government created a school on paper but provided no infrastructure, so the village plans to partner with Tandana to construct a school building. 	Scholarships ($105,000 - Total Annual Cost) Our scholarship programs in Ecuador and Mali open doors for young scholars that may not have been possible otherwise. Education allows them to earn a degree and then find a job and serve their communities with their knowledge.
